Focus on Children’s Portraits and Siblings – Powell, OH Family Photography

Published in Family, Photography
I grow to appreciate and enjoy family photography even more every single time I am out with a family. I love how more families are going back to the practice of enlisting professional photographers to make their family portraits and then sharing and enjoying them by displaying the photographs in their homes. It seems like the proliferation of digital everything killed the family portrait in American homes for a while, but I feel like we're coming back around! It may sound odd to be excited about this if your thought of a family portrait is something made 25 years ago by a grumpy department Read the full post

Sugarcreek, OH Winter Wedding Photography | Mark & Laura – Carlisle Inn

Mark and Laura's wedding day was nestled perfectly in between winter storms. Their intimate, family focused wedding was a breath of fresh air compared to the many high stress, high stakes weddings that can quickly take the life out of a day that is meant to be a celebration of love and two families coming together. Mark shared with me early on in the day that his goal for their wedding photography was one good photograph of he and Laura together! He and Laura embodied the "roll with it" attitude all day as Mark's brother's luggage (and military dress blues) was MIA, his other groomsmen had a different Read the full post

Engagement Photography in Port Washington, Ohio | Lindsey & Scott

Published in Photography
It's been a while since I have updated the blog, so I wanted to share an engagement photo session from this past fall. I am blessed to be able to photograph Lindsey and Scott's wedding (which will be held at the beautiful new facilities at Breitenbach Winery) this coming fall, and had a great time working with them on this session. Scott and Lindsey are big into the outdoors as you can see. I got the hint while traveling to Scott's home: I drove from asphalt, to chip and seal, to gravel, to a dirt road to get there! They are tucked away in a beautiful area, and it was great to be able to photograph Read the full post

Our New Baby! Harper Rippel | Birth Photography in Canton, OH

Published in Family, Photography
Here is a little glimpse into something you've never seen from me before now: birth photography. Birth photographers are a dedicated and hardworking bunch. You must have your bags packed and ready to go at all times, being "on-call" for delivery for 2-5 weeks, ready to go at a moment's notice! Thankfully, I almost always have a few cameras close by, because our second son decided to come 3-4 weeks early. Even though I don’t know how much birth photography you’ll see from me in the future, I had a blast. A new baby is just about the most significant event that a documentary photographer/photojournalist Read the full post

I love being able to share in one of the most significant events in the life of a couple. As a photographer it also means so much to me to partner with clients who truly value what goes into wedding photography. It was clear from our first meeting that Danielle and Doug were on the same page with what they were looking for out of a wedding photographer, and we seemed to click right from the start. We met to see if we were a good fit for each other, then met to go over and tweak their timeline to keep everything flowing and allow time for their photography and allow time for them to enjoy each other. Navarre, OH Wedding | Lakeside Banquet Center My only conversations with Mike and Rachel before their big day was via FaceTime video chat, but the wedding day meeting cemented my initial reaction: this couple is all about having a good time! They were incredibly chill and did a wonderful job rolling with the challenges of the day due to the rain. Rachel must have checked her phone a hundred times for the weather report last Saturday, but we ended up with a beautiful outdoor ceremony just minutes after the rain stopped. The ceremony and reception were both held in Navarre Ohio at Lakeside Banquet Read the full post

I’ve had a great time getting to know Darcie and Andrew this year, and it was an honor (and a blast) to be able to share in their big day by photographing their wedding. Darcie looked gorgeous, and the entire day was wonderful. It was a beautiful summer day, and an amazing celebration of two people in love. It was great to see how excited and ready Andrew was to see Darcie and start their life together. They chose to decline the first look and stay traditional, but couldn’t resist taking a moment to hold hands before the ceremony. The joy and excitement in their eyes was simply awesome. As Read the full post

The first wedding I was able to photograph this season was in a secluded wooded setting, full of perfect DIY decoration and style, and the most emotional, joyous receiving line showcasing the union of two families that I have ever witnessed. Celebrating with a couple like Delon and Marilyn was an honor! After the first meeting it was clear that we were all on the same wavelength and that Marilyn and her crew were planning the most gorgeous, pinterest-inspired rustic wedding in the heart of Amish country Ohio. The more we were able to chat about the venue, her plans, and their day, the more the Read the full post

Engagement, Family – Dover, New Phila. OH Photographer

I had the opportunity to shoot with Marci and Scott after connecting with Carley York of CYork Photography. I am going to be working with Carley as a 2nd shooter for Marci and Scott's wedding this summer, so when Carley was unable to make it to shoot their engagement session, she asked me to help out. CYork is based out of Virginia, so it was much easier for me to step in and have the opportunity to work with this beautiful couple and their family. This session took place in Orrville, OH, less than an hour or so from New Phialdelphia/Dover. Scott's boys were full of energy, and I was thrilled Read the full post

Pittis – Dover, New Philadelphia, Ohio Family Photographer

Published in Family, Photography
Yesterday I was able to go out and shoot with the Pittis family around downtown New Phila and then later move out to the Pleasant Valley area. This family has loads of style, and New Philadelphia's eclectic back alleys provided a great backdrop and texture. As a photographer, I love being able to walk the alleys every once in a while and find great spots like these. Dover and New Phila. have a ton of great areas that photograph with lots of character, and we had a great time walking around and exploring while making these photographs. Not to mention I simply love the trees and landscape of Ohio. Read the full post
